Men of Power and Women of Honor Parenting Program

EC used a skill based parenting education component which focuses on responsible parenting. We use curriculum materials from three parenting skill-building programs created by the Center for the Improvement of Child Caring (CICC) which includes the Confident Parenting Program, Effective Black Parenting Program (EBPP) and Los NiƱos Bien Educados Programs. Under these training programs, EC has provided parent training to teen and adult parents in schools, community centers and agencies in the Metropolitan area of Washington, DC EBPP curriculum is a culturally relevant parenting, skillbuilding program designed to include the unique history, values and life circumstances of Black Americans. It is designed to assist educators, organizations, childcare providers and parents in raising competent and achieving children.

This program fosters:

  • Effective family communication
  • Extended family values
  • Child growth and development
  • Healthy self-esteem

The Effective Black Parenting (EBP) program has been shown to:

  • Reduce negative family communication
  • Enhance parental involvement with children
  • Reduce child behavior problems
  • Enhance parent involvement with children
  • Enhance limit-setting
  • Improve the general psychological well-being of parents
